GUITAR FAMILY 2-007 Answer Key

Student Worksheet K-1
How many strings are there? six

Student Worksheet 2-3 and 4-5
Labeling the guitar:
The neck is long and thin, and comes up out of the body of the guitar. On the neck is the fingerboard, where the left hand goes. On the fingerboard you can see small horizontal lines, or frets. The frets are guidelines for placing your fingers on the six strings, on top of the fingerboard. At the end of the neck you can see three tuning pegs on either side, one for each of the six strings. The sound hole is an opening in the middle of the guitar, and the bridge is found below the sound hole, where the strings are anchored.

Further Activities:
See how many members of the guitar family the students can remember from the show: acoustic guitar, banjo, bouzouki, charango, cittern, cuatro, dutar, electric guitar, lute, mandolin, oud, pipa, tar, theorbo, ukelele.

Ask the students where they might see a guitar being played: on a television show, in a movie, at a Spanish or Mexican-themed restaurant, at a fair or outdoor activity, at an urban transportation hub (subway, bus station, train station), in a park, etc.
